Real Estate & Weddings on the Vineyard
By Joanna Fairchild, Sales Agent Ocean Park Realty & Wedding Planner, JF Weddings & Events
Next week is the busiest week of the summer between the Agricultural Fair in West Tibsury and Illumination night to the annual Fireworks Display in Oak Bluffs. It's a time most of us who live and work here begin to take a sigh of relief and know that we can return to business at hand. Not to take a back seat to summer but September, October and November are just as busy in the real estate market and the wedxding industry as the heat of summer. While, everyone is aware of the active real estate market on the Island not everyone knows that allegedly Marthas Vineyard is the second largest wedding destination next to Las Vegas. As a real estate sales agent with Ocean Park Realty and an independent wedding planner I can speak to both markets. There actually is a segue between the two. Many of the weddings book rental homes in Oak Bluffs where some of the vacation homes can sleep anywhere between 8-16 guests it is less expensive option then hotels rooms. One of the reasons the weddings take place mostly in the Spring and Fall is due to the fact that it is not only easier to get here sans the summer crowds but often the room rates and rentals are more reasonable. Oak Bluffs has over over a hundred rooms to offer with Inns such as the Wesley Inn, Madison Inn, Oak Bluffs Inn, Narragansett House, Admiral Benbow Inn (listed with Ocean Park for sale) for guests to book in addition to our many rental listings for vacation homes. While Island wide there are many venues to choose from Brides do not have to look further then Oak Bluffs for exceptional ceremony and reception locations. The East Chop Lighthouse overlooking the Nantucket Sound has been the site for more then 25 wedding ceremonies this year alone. The Tabernacle and Union Chapel plus the availability of six more churches of all denominations are possible as well. Couples who prefer an elopement or more intimate wedding can book a charter ton the Sea Witch a floating B&B Dreamland and Lolas are all amazing wedding venues and have the unique distinction of a late night curfew due to entertainment licenses that allow them to play music until 1am as opposed to 8-10pm curfew Island wide. The Sailing Camp and Farm Neck are also popular reception choices for those who dont mind an earlier evening. Whether it is real estate or wedding planning both require precise attention to details and we specialize in making those visions come true.
